Thursday is my fave day of the week!
It really is the beginning of our slide into the weekend.
As a wife, mother of 5, grandmother of 3, and working full-time, I can have a pretty full plate at times.
But after a few weeks of going full speed ahead, I eventually get to a crashing point where I just want sleep.
That crashing point is this week for me.
Do you ever feel this way?
You go, go, go until there’s just no go left in you? (Reminds me of the commercial! You know the cheese one that says “when your get up and go has got up and gone, you hanker for a hunk of cheese!” Is this dating me? Lol!)
I definitely think my get up and go has got up and gone! If only a hunk of cheese could take care of it, but I’m way beyond that kind of help.
I need some serious recharging.
What do you do when you need a quick pick-me-up?
Here are my 3 favorite things to do when I’m feeling overloaded:
We all know we aren’t getting enough sleep these days. So why fight it?
The best way for me to fit in some extra sleep is to tell the family how much I really need some. I ask for their help in getting it.
You’ll notice that everyone will be much more accommodating if they are aware of your situation.
I will either take a nap or use Saturday morning to not set an alarm, close the black out curtains and turn up the white noise machine (personally I like to listen to crashing waves of the ocean, they’re mesmerizing!) and sleep until my body wakes on its own. Even if it’s 11:00am when I finally get out of bed.
However…to do this I have to tell everyone not to wake me up!
Otherwise I will probably get the 7:00am knock on my door saying “Mom can we go get donuts?!” You know, that emergency stuff that can’t wait until you walk out of the bedroom. Hahaha!
Bottom line, sleep is super important to your health and you shouldn’t feel guilty about making time for it…you’re worth it!
#2 Cut one activity out of your daily schedule
This can be for one night, temporarily, or even permanently.
The activity you cut out can be anything.
It can be doing the dishes (ok you may not be able to cut this one out permanently…but you can let them sit for a night or ask for help with getting them done.) This goes for pretty much anything around the house.
You can also skip a yoga class, cancel dinner plans, postpone going to Costco, etc.
Whenever I do this (like tonight) I feel like I gain so much extra time.
Not only do you have more time, it also lowers your stress levels, let’s you go at a slower pace because you don’t have to fit as much in.
Just a little break in your schedule can be really rejuvenating.
When you’re worn down, this may be one of the first things you are tempted to cut out of your schedule.
But don’t do it!
Energy in motion stays in motion.
The boost you get from exercising can be that “hunk of cheese”. It can give you extra energy to keep you going strong.
if you’re anything like me, you have so many ideas and things to do on your list it’s hard to take time out to exercise.
If you’re too tired to do your usual workout routine, change things up a bit and do some stretching or walking. Something that doesn’t require too much energy to get through it.
I’ve set a goal to do 15 minutes of yoga every day. This seems very reasonable and doable to me.
Last night I walked out to my blog studio to do my 15 minutes.
I was using a YouTube video and before I knew it, I had done 45 minutes! Yay!
It felt so so good! Can’t wait to do it again.
What rejuvenates me may be different from what re-energizes you, but regardless of what you choose to do, I hope this inspires you to take the time you need for yourself when you need to.
That’s it for today folks! I think I’ll go to bed early tonight.
