How much do you spend each month on beauty essentials (and maybe even the occasional splurge here and there 😉)?
Would you like to maintain a high quality beauty/skin care routine without having to spend a fortune?
I know I would!
I have a very high maintenance skin care routine due to struggling with acne and extremely sensitive skin for most of my life.
That’s why I started investigating beauty ‘dupes’.
I needed to find ways to save money without sacrificing quality and I’ve found some good ones!
Now I’d like to share my bargain finds with you!
Let’s start with eye makeup remover.
My requirements are that it needs to be oil-free, non-greasy, lightweight, take off stubborn waterproof eyeliners/mascaras and most importantly non-irritating. Using retinoids such as Tazorac makes my skin very fragile, especially around the eyes, I need an extremely gentle remover.
My go-to eye makeup remover is now Neutrogena Oil-free Gentle Makeup Remover
Price: Only $8.49 for 5.5 oz
For years I’ve used oil-free removers from trusted name brands such as Estée Lauder, Lancôme, Clinique, etc.
While all of these do work great, the prices can get hefty, especially on an item that you use almost every single day.
I swear I go through at least a bottle a month!
At first glance, $19 or even $30 may not seem like much, but it starts adding up quickly when you have so many other beauty essentials you need to get too.
Good news though! If you did a blindfold test, I don’t think you would even be able to tell the difference between the Neutrogena and the more expensive brands.
There was one small difference that I noticed after several trials which could possibly justify a bit of a higher cost, the Clinique eye makeup remover seemed to revitalize my eyes after using it.
I tried it several times watching closely to make sure I wasn’t just super tired when I did my first comparison test, but nope, each time I truly felt like it gave my eyes a little lift.
I am definitely tempted to keep a bottle on hand for using once in a while whenever I feel a little extra run down. I’m sure you can relate.
But overall, from a budget perspective, the Neutrogena is perfect.
I should mention that I also tried Daylogic, the Rite Aid generic brand ($5.69 for 6.4 oz.). It was acceptable in a pinch, but I noticed it wasn’t as effective as the Neutrogena at removing all of my eye makeup. While you do get a little more product, you also have to use a little more to get everything off. If I had to choose, I’d stick with the Neutrogena.
The Neutrogena glides on gently, feels just like water, yet it is strong enough to remove even the toughest waterproof eyeliners and mascaras.
And there’s not that oily residue that some “oil-free” removers leave.
What I discovered with Neutrogena is the price for the quality just can’t be matched.
It’s nearly 50% cheaper than other leading beauty brands. That’s quite a savings don’t you think?!
Instead of spending $240 per year on eye makeup remover, I spend roughly $120 per year. (depending on where I buy it and if it’s on sale)
It’s truly an amazing product and I highly recommend trying it if you haven’t yet! AND it makes a great stocking stuffer! Hint! Hint!
It’s also easy to find, you can buy it at almost any drug store or supermarket.
I normally just grab mine from my friendly neighborhood Target. So handy!
Once I discovered this Neutrogena treasure I’ve never looked back!
