What are you doing right now to improve yourself in some way?
For today’s Motivation Monday I’m going to tell it to you straight.
You need to be working on developing yourself. Professionally AND personally.
I know you’re busy.
We all are!
I know you have to make time for family, work, home maintenance, exercise, time with friends, and the list goes on and on.
You’ve heard the popular saying, “We all have the same amount of time in a day as _______ (Beyoncé , Michael Phelps, etc. You fill in the blank!).
Yes, it’s true that we all have the same amount of time in a day, however, we don’t all use that time in the same way.
And that’s OK!
Your circumstances are unique to you and no one expects you to be a Beyoncé or Michael Phelps.
Of course there will be times when you slack off.
That’s OK too!
You need some down time just as long as your down time doesn’t become your daily standard.
The problem comes when you aren’t actively working to improve yourself on a consistent basis.
With the internet your learning opportunities and resources are virtually unlimited.
There are no excuses.
But YOU have to take advantage of those opportunities.
No one is going to do it for you!
You have to make time for self-development. Period. You must do it!
You need to take action and invest in your mind consistently!
How you ask?
- Choose an area to focus on.
- Take a class.
- Do new things every day.
- Join a club or group (such as Toastmasters) 🙂
- Learn things you may not need immediately on the job or at home, but that may be good for your future.
- Focus on professional growth, but include learning some fun things too!
- Take risks.
- Sacrifice today for the future.
- Challenge yourself!
If you don’t make time for learning new things life will continue status quo.
Like I said no one will do it for you.
Recently I was reading an article by Aaron Morton on building confidence and it tied really nicely into self-development. Aaron said:
It is a much better use of your time to play around altering your thoughts and behaviours in the quest for increasing confidence than it is to wait around and ‘hope that the world changes’ before you can increase confidence.
Not only does self-development increase your confidence, it increases your professional AND personal successes.
Take 100% ownership of your continual self-development.
While no one may be able to do it for you, that doesn’t mean you have to do it alone.
Find a partner or like-minded friend to learn and grow with.
Choose someone you know is dependable and who will help you push yourself out of your comfort zone.
Someone who will be there to support and mentor you.
Someone who will tell you that you can’t quit when you feel like giving up.
Someone who will celebrate your accomplishments with you!
I’ve always been a life learner. I get giddy when I find something new that makes me want to tackle it head on (like blogging).
I can tell you from personal experience that as you invest in your mind successes and opportunities will come your way.
Your confidence will grow and it will show in everything you do.
Blogging has taught me so much!
I’ve been learning how to do it since about April of this year and the more I learn the more I find I have so much MORE to learn. So typical huh?!
I’m not a pro-blogger by any means, I wouldn’t even call myself proficient yet, but the list of things I’ve learned so far is invaluable to me. I am excited to see where it goes!
What are you doing to invest in your mind?
I’m learning how to blog! (Hey! There’s an idea if you need one!) 😉
Leave a comment, I’d love to hear what you’re working on.
