We have a GIVEAWAY winner! Congratulations to Heather Patrick! You’re the lucky winner of the H.i.P. December giveaway!!! Your prizes will be on the way to you shortly. I hope you put them to good use. These are the perfect tools to help you get 2017 off to a great start. 🙂
As a matter of fact, let’s talk about how everyone can start 2017 off on the right foot.
This year I’ve learned a lot and my goal is to up my game even more in the New Year using the same amazingly simple tools and techniques.
You can use them too!
We’ve already discussed many of them and we will be discussing many more in the coming year.
But just so you have a few of them fresh in your mind, here’s a quick list of some of the most effective things you can do to ensure you’re successful in all you do.
Make 2017 your best year ever using these H.i.P. thoughts!
HAVE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE.
Attitude is everything! If you win, if you lose, if you are feeling happy, if you’re feeling down, if you’re upset, if you’re frustrated, if you’re content…it doesn’t matter what you feel like or what’s happening, if you adopt a positive attitude in life it will make ANY situation better. For a vivid reminder, you can read my previous post about how the Ten Boom sisters found a way to stay positive in a Nazi concentration camp infested with fleas. How To Stay Positive Even When You Think You Can’t.
Having a positive attitude attracts others to you.
Others will want to work with you, be your friend, be on your team, promote you, date you, marry you, etc.
Being positive doesn’t mean pretending to be happy even when you’re not, it just means you’re looking at all vantage points and finding something of value you can take away from any given situation.
SEEK TO LEARN.
Don’t just take a class when your boss tells you to. Show an interest in things at work, at home, in the community.
Learn just for the sake of learning. Seek to learn!
Take a business improvement class, take a photography class, take a cooking class.
It may or may not get you a promotion, but learning will ALWAYS better your life in some way.
SEEK TO UNDERSTAND OTHERS.
Admit it. You are a “little” set in your ways.
There are very few people who have mastered the art of being truly open-minded.
There is always room for improvement in this area.
I work on it ALL the time.
The good news is you can change this rather easily and quickly!
You can train yourself to listen better, to judge less, and to try to see where someone else is coming from.
It just takes some self-restraint.
Don’t think about what you’re going to say when someone else is talking to you.
I used to be really bad at this.
I don’t feel like I’m very good at replying quickly so I thought I had to think of a good response or I would look stupid not being ready with a reply.
But I’ve discovered that when I listen purely with the intent to understand, I have much more thoughtful responses because I have been able to absorb more of what was said.
I have also learned that I don’t need to reply to someone right away.
I think others appreciate it when I tell them I’d like to think about what they said for a bit or if I come back to them later and tell them I’ve been thinking about what they said and give them feedback on it.
No matter where you are, provide some kind of service.
If you are at work, strive to find areas you can increase the value of your service.
If you are at home, do unexpected things for your family.
You can find ways to help at your church, in your community, etc.
It’s not always easy to go above and beyond, it’s also not easy fitting extra things into your daily routine, but you need to find time for it.
You will find that as you serve others, your happiness increases, your self-confidence increases, and you learn skills that you may never have ever expected to gain.
This is how successful people grow.
Why did I choose these 4 areas to focus on? Why do I think they can help you make 2017 your best year ever?
Because these 4 things; the right attitude, continual learning, working to understand others, and providing service have been major keys to success in my home and work life.
At home, they have helped me raise a large family without a lot of stress or conflict.
They have helped me get through some very difficult life events.
They have also been the key to many successful accomplishments that our family has been able to celebrate together.
At work, they have helped me work successfully with teams and management.
They have helped me get promotions when I was competing against people with much higher college degrees than I have.
I truly believe that doing these things on a consistent basis, day after day, year after year pays off.
For the New Year, I want to continue building the Happy is Pretty community into a place where we can all learn and grow together.
A place we can share set-backs and successes.
A place to inspire and share the joys we find in the every day that bring true happiness.
To help do this, I will start the year off tackling some tough subjects.
- Dealing with difficult family,
- setting boundaries,
- financial fitness,
- physical fitness and
- mental wellness just to name a few.
While I am an avid goal setter and you will definitely be seeing a goal setting blog post in the near future (think next week 😉 ) I am also an avid believer that if you’re not tackling and overcoming the tough issues in your life, you will never be very successful reaching meaningful goals.
I need to learn how to tackle and overcome tough issues just as much as (or even more than) you do.
Together we can conquer them as we work to improve ourselves and be happier one day at a time.
The New Year is a fresh start.
Although January 1 is just another day in the big scheme of things, using it as a timeline marker is perfect!
You can always start fresh on any given day, but let the holiday hype help jump-start your year.
Dream big and then take big action.
That’s what being H.i.P. is all about!
Here’s to a wonderful New Year! For us all!!!
Stay HiP friends,
